The Semiki Situation

  • ARC - Report on events in Semiki -links to further reading attached.

This all began with a report on 17th of the 1st by Lina Ambre. Essentially, one Steine Vailakkel, possibly aided by accomplices, entered the Semiki Biohazard Containment Facility owned by the Zainou megacorp, under an assumed identity, and commited acts of sabotage. At the time employees at the station reported malfunctions in various station functions, including artificial gravity, communications and internal transport. Subsequently the local Aliastra warehouse suffered an intrusion by a singular virus designed to attack cybernetic implants. This was traced to an Interbus shuttle carrying personnel from the Zainou facility. Aliastra personnel often use implants to facilitate their work, and several reported severe migraines and other symptoms, some of which have got worse since the initial attack.

The attack was curious because it bears a resemblance to the attack on priminent Lai Dai scientist Elonaya - Holene Vailakkel 10 years previously, and Steine is her spouse. Holene has been in a coma ever since and Lai Dai biomedical staff have been unable to improve her condition.

Various operatives from the Wiyrkomi Peace Corps and Ishukone Watch are investigating the intrusion and Makoto Priano, noted CEO of Itsukame-Zainou Hyperspatial Inquiries [IKAME], immediately offered her corporation's resources to assist in any way possible. The situation has got worse, experts from Ishukone Watch, aided by IKAME consultants have determined that the virus appears to be, at least in part, based on rogue drone subroutines and may even share similarities with the Triglavian Collective GalNet worm used to disable CONCORD's suspect flagging system on high grade Abyssal filaments, which CONCORD has been unable to repair. The virus exhibits an unknown level of adaptive AI, and resists attempts to irradicate it from infected systems. Ishukone Watch Officer Kauntora Itkaku requested capsuleer assistance from amiable parties in supplying Rogue Drone and other materials to be used in research. As well as IKAME, Ishukone-Raata Enforcement Directive [I-RED], Heiian Conglomerate and Phoenix Naval Systems also moved detachments into system to assist in the worsening crisis. Itsukame-Zainou Hyperspatial Inquiries is also the founding corporation of the Arataka Research Consortium and ARC operatives jumped in to assist. ARC Studio released the following Discourse on the situation.

To that end we jointly scoured our research facilities for any materials we had on hand, and also reached out to Signal Cartel pilots, among others, to recover the requested materials. A number of ARC pilots plunged valiantly into the Abyss in order to obtain quantities of Trinary Datastreams which had been requested by Ishukone Watch. Ms. Makato was ,shortly thereafter, able to offer a substantial quantity of materials to Ishukone Watch, which, strangely, prompted a rather rude request from Case Red Gamma Taskforce’s SARO Command Liaison, Captain Oveg Drust insisting the materials were dangerous and that ARC handed them over, with the implied threat of there being consequences if we failed to comply. ARC operatives continued to gather materials while we considered our options, variously making approaches to a number of organisations to assist in countering CONCORD's high-handed approach to the situation. ARC counsel Declan Kentonna submitted a legal application to the Inner Circle to see what directives Oveg was acting under and Uriel Anteovnuecci approached Elder Mentor Matshi Raish of the Geminate Chapter of the Society of Conscious Thought. As we were preparing to hand materials over to Oveg there was an announcent by Laati Okinori, Zainou's Situation Officer for the Semiki Zainou Biohazard Containment Incident YC121-01-17. The Chair of the Yulai Accords and Convention Arbitration Committee agreed to an immediate stay of the order by CONCORD, and materials have been returned to Semiki preparatory to handing them over to Zainou, or Ishukone Watch researchers.
